Apartment solution.
My niece Kuu called after she discovered the room she was supposed to live in — at college — was so horrible she felt like crying every time she walked into the place.
I told her, “Don’t stay there then.” She assured me there would be other places she could find instead.
It became a much more challenging project than either of us imagined. It was like a part-time job — for both of us, but the clock was ticking because school was already in session and she was couch-surfing. I was getting more and more nervous and she was getting more & more frustrated, but we held out — because we both knew there would be the right place … somewhere.
After many hours of coaching and thinking it through with her, chasing down nasty landlords and faceless apartment owners, she found an apartment with a nice roommate — and we both rejoiced.

I got this sweet letter from her today, when I returned from being at another function where I’d gotten to see her … in Michigan… so it was a lovely capper to a weekend of “thank you’s.”
