Aural fixation.
On the way to Sweden — where Vin was about to be made a “Knight” — I had a 5-hour layover in Boston. Rather than stay at the airport cooling our jets at Logan International, (no pun intended), we decided to get off campus and go somewhere — anywhere — else for dinner.
Our driver, Scott, turned out to know his way around excellent restaurants … and the recording world. He and Vin got into a spirited conversation about what disc jockeys used to work where, and the time in traffic sped by thanks to lively interaction.
I promised to send him a CD of Vin’s single “My Arms”, from when he was a teenager and named “Johnny Lindy”. It was his single and only recording. When I got home tonight, before it slipped my Swiss-cheese-brained mind, I dug out Scott’s card and sent him a follow-up.
