Baldessari, Calder, and Silverman .

It was a dazzling week for the arts. I went to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Tuesday. I wanted to see the Calder Exhibit and decided “Just go, don’t wait for a friend”.
I liked his quote about how circles and spheres influence all of his work and I spent quite a bit of time watching one mobile slowly ambulate over my head. I stopped at the gift shop — always in search of stationery! — and found these cool cards by artist John Baldessari. I’m a willing sucker for museum gift shops. It’s a small way I can help the Museum’s cash flow.
Today I had lunch with Adam Silverman, a world-famous ceramicist (and Rhode Island School of Design alum). I like hearing what he’s doing and he’s been particularly busy since the Laguna Museum of Art exhibit just closed yesterday and he’s already organizing the next exhibits for the rest of the year. We went to BLD, down the street from Heath Ceramics, where he’s creative director. It seemed fitting I should write him on one of my brand new Baldessari cards. I knew of all people he would appreciate the color palette:
Warm brownie, American Cheese, Carrot Stick, Black Bean Soup, Perky Peach, and Leek.
I hope it makes him smile as it did me.
