Long-distance relationship.

http://www.cadetompkins.com/ Cate Tompkins runs a gallery in Providence, Rhode Island. I went there once and appreciated the art she curates.  I asked to be on the mailing list, and Cate has made sure to send me materials about all events she has there — whether I’m in California or not… I’m still in the loop….

The tan may have faded…

http://www.emerson.edu/ela I’m going through my “letters to post” file — having done some Spring Cleaning — and found this delightful note from Jackie Liebergott, the former long-time President of Emerson College in Boston. She came out for the opening of the new Los Angeles campus. I encouraged her to get a fake tan — something…

Stress ball.

I love balls.  Stress balls, that is.  I use one when Vin drives — he’s a tailgater and I squeeze my blue ball when he’s on the freeway, hugging bumpers. I’ve sent stress balls to my internist, Dr. Ruiz. Now I’ve turned Sherrill Colony onto them — because her husband’s been known to make some…

Baby brother loves his chocolate.

I introduced my brother Steve to JOHN KELLY CHOCOLATES.  I’m afraid I’m a bit like a heroin dealer — giving him just a taste… because now he’s definitely addicted.  Luckily I can get them at Neiman Marcus now, I just found out, although the trek to the store in Santa Monica  is more fun. (It…

Put a teabag in your shoe…

….and other helpful hints in this story about the perfect closet that my sister Annie sent me. One helpful piece of information said to “put a teabag into smelly shoes”. Annie wrote “News to me!” I haven’t tried that yet.  The whole notion of it was a bit repulsive, to tell you the truth. Even…

An alley full of magic.

I got a really pretty pink card from Marisa Murrow, an artist from RISD.  I’d written a letter of reference for her … and she sent me an original photograph that she’d taken in the alley behind her studio.  She wrote, “I love how magical the light moves through my hand”.  I agree. Please Share

After Annie’s birthday…

My sister Annie graciously shared her birthday weekend with my Mom’s 90th.  I had a good time finding her a new Spring wardrobe, and a pair of bling-y silver tennis shoes… which she put on the next day and seems to be wearing to every venue she can. Please Share

… munching popcorn and Butterfingers.

After my sister Annie’s birthday (and my Mom’s 90th), I got a treasure trove of letters from our friends. Since I’d included various types of stationery and notecards in the goody bags, it was gratifying to get back some of them in situ. Linda Pitts wrote how she and her husband Kevin “munched popcorn and Butterfingers”…

Tweet, tweet.

Cate Ferrall sent me a newsy description of what’s going on at P.S. 10, her school in New York. She’s got Ms. Chan as her teacher, and she says “… at my school they are going to all (childrend & staff) hold hands around the school because Gov. Cuomo is going to grade teachers on…
