A tale of two cities.

It it truly a “tale of two cities”, as the library card says. On the night of Matt and Teylor’s wedding in North Carolina, I will be in Michigan, being honored at a leadership conference. When Matt + Teylor’s invitation came, it took me a minute to think, “Wait, isn’t there something then?” I didn’t…

“You’re my type” from Texas.

Kelley Mills was a great administrator who worked as our Trustee Relations person at Rhode Island School of Design. When she left to work at a college in Fort Worth, Texas, I wrote her a ‘thank you’ letter and asked her to stay in touch.  I sent it c/of the President’s office at RISD since…

Cupcake wedding cake.

Jennifer Hronek was our wedding planner almost eight years ago. Since then, we’ve stayed in touch… she has contacts in the stationery world and I get my personalized letterhead from her.. as well as buckslips and everything else we can imagine together. I send her various clippings about what’s trending in weddings these days… and…

Hearts & Tarts.

My former mother-in-law Naomi always remembers my birthday, and this year was no exception. In return, I’m reminding her of one of my favorite pictures ever of the Goldstein boys — where they had been baking (all under the age of nine) and the kitchen cabinets, the floor, and the countertop was head-to-toe coated in…

Inventory.

OK, so maybe I’m easy. Not that way. In my likes. People who know me — have figured out anything that screams “Thank You”, office supplies, Post Office — makes me happy. Karen, my college roommate from UC Santa Cruz days, knows. She’s always on the look-out for engraved cards with typewriters.  And since she…

Birthday butterflies.

Gloria Shepard loves stickers, butterflies, kitty cats, and flowers. She managed to get almost all of them represented in the birthday greeting she sent me this year. She also enclosed a sheet of butterfly stickers for me to use. I’m already figuring out what the next worthy envelope will be. It’s fun to have a…

Trailer queen.

I think Marissa Murrow, a RISD alumna, is a talented painter.  I set up an introduction for her with Laguna Museum of Art’s Director Malcolm Warner, and she thanked me for the connection — with one of her own unique cards. Please Share

A poster from afar.

I try to support artists where ever I go … and especially those who have links to Rhode Island School of Design. A few years ago I was introduced to the Cade Tompkins Gallery in Providence, R.I. Cade still sends me posters & updates of shows… I want to let them know I appreciate the…

Special people.

Ruby and Neil always remember our birthdays.  Neil was Vin’s nurse after Vin’s knee surgery years ago. Ever since then, Neil’s been vigilant about remembering both of our birthdays. It makes every celebration that much more special, somehow, when we get a card from the Bongcaras family. That kind of caring is … well, special….
