Tip: Type it, get it done. Print & mail.

My writing teacher Linda used to dread writing thank you’s — because she, like me, is more computer-dependent than a pen & paper lover. “Just type it,” I urged.  “It’s better than sitting on it and feeling guilty.” I’m glad to see Linda took my advice — and because she’s a fabulous scribe, her message…

Reunited.

I worked with John Gengl at MPH Entertainment … and we always enjoyed each other.  He headed up Post Production and I was VP of Production, so we had lots of interaction — especially when it came time to budgets and deadlines.  John is working with veteran producer Arnold Shapiro now and I was delighted…

Enthusiasm pays.

We got a high-energy walk-through of Emerson College/Los Angeles last week and before too much time elapsed, I wrote Patrick to thank him for the two-hour tour. As it turns out, I’m going to see him again tomorrow — before the letter hits his mailbox.  It’s still OK, though, because I promised “it’s in the…

Emerson College in L.A., Vin’s dream come true.

We got to walk through the new Emerson College campus in Los Angeles last week.  It was so magnificent that it brought Vin to tears… and I wrote the architect Thom Mayne, who’s world-famous for his break-through designs, of how the experience moved at least one Emerson alum. Please Share

Steve Soboroff’s “time machines”.

Roger Curtis sent me this link to an interview with typewriter collector Steve Soboroff, who’s talking with Southern California Public Radio.  (He gets his machines fixed by Ermanno of Star Office Machines.) *** Here’s a radio interview (audio only, of course) if you have 7 minutes to listen — http:/http://www.scpr.org/programs/offramp-extra/2012/08/31/28007/steve-soboroffs-typewriter-time-machinesx/ Please Share

Many happy returns.

Part of the way I let my friends know I’m thinking of them is if I seen an article online or in the paper (or magazine, in this case “REAL SIMPLE”) — I clip it and send it to them. Teri K. is an inveterate shopper who used to work in retail at Fred Segal…

Baldessari, Calder, and Silverman .

http://www.lacma.org/art/exhibition/calder-and-abstraction-avant-garde-iconic   It was a dazzling week for the arts.  I went to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Tuesday.  I wanted to see the Calder Exhibit and decided “Just go, don’t wait for a friend”. I liked his quote about how circles and spheres influence all of his work and I…

The typing baby.

My cousin Lauren needed help. “You have a typewriter, right?” she asked, slightly panicky. “Two of them,” I said.  “In two different rooms.  Why?” “Are they wide carriage?  My friend has a typewriter but it wouldn’t work for what I need.” I didn’t know.  I promised to call Ermanno at Star Office first thing in…

Crystal energy.

As someone who prides herself on being highly rational — maybe the result of having two atheists as parents? — I find myself succumbing sometimes to the lures of the spiritual and unexplained. Michael and Nina made me a special necklace — black onyx and crystal.  When I put it on, I did feel ……
