French compact.

When we met Jeff and Jan Greenhawt in France, the first thing Jan did was give me a wrapped present… for my birthday.  I thought it was so kind of her to remember, and I was thrilled to receive an unexpected gift in a foreign land.  (I told her I didn’t know that you were allowed to take wrapped gifts anymore, but I guess TSA has relaxed their concerns about that.)

It was a silver makeup mirror, and I used it quite frequently on the hot dusty trip to check my wilting lipstick.  As soon as I got home, I wrote the note — because I’ve found if I start using something before I do, it’s easy to forget to send the proper letter after the item’s found its way into general use.
