The host to a thousand.

We didn’t meet Ron Burkle, who generously opened his magnificent estate for the 20th year to the Rape Center luncheon — but I wanted to tell him ‘thank you’ anyway.

These are the kinds of letters I write because I believe in the power of thank you … even when I’m just one of the thousands and the host has no idea who I am… I still want to let him know how important his philanthropy is, and I imagine he won’t get very many typed ‘thank you’ notes from total strangers like me.  (I like to imagine the surprise and hopefully, momentary flash of pleasure, he gets when he receives my unexpected missive).

Besides, didn’t your Mother always teach you to write a note to your host?
