Indisposed at the Hollywood Bowl.
Earth, Wind & Fire at the Hollywood Bowl last night with our friends Chuck and Shelby. Second year in a row we’ve been invited. My religious experience. (Don’t tell anyone at Temple I chose the concert over Yom Kippur services). Before it began, I ran to the ladies’ room. Plenty of stalls and I chose one near the back. The place was clearing out, a few minutes before showtime. I had just sat down when I noticed a small pair of clear glasses on the toilet paper dispenser. I heard a little girl’s voice call, “Mommy, they’re in THERE!” and the mom’s response, “Wait a minute, until she’s out.” I knew the glasses must be hers — and a second after I figured that out, a pair of pink sparkly tennis shoes tapped toward the bathroom stall.
“Here you go,” I said, still indisposed, handing them under the white steel door. “Thank you,” the little girl chirruped, and her mommy repeated it. It all happened so quickly I didn’t have time to reflect until after. What else can you say in a situation like that? I will never meet them, but I did a good deed — and the little girl learned how all you need say is a quick ‘Thank You” when something good happens… and you’ve done your part.
