Old faithful.

I had a tough day today.  I went to the funeral of my long-time friend Sid Wald, who was 98 and had lived a long life, but I am still sad to have said my final ‘goodbye’.  Before I left, I wrote a 2-page typed letter to Jeff, his son, with my random thoughts about Sid and what I’d always remember about him.

How do you remember a person’s life in a page?

The funeral went as well as these events can, and it was good to see Jeff’s friends, some of whom I hadn’t seen since the last major occasion.  Even so, it was a drain and I was tired mid-afternoon from the output of seeming good cheer in a sad situation.

I came home and after “Newsroom”, which was also a shock, I took a nap at 8 o’clock., Temporary suicide was not going to let me off the hook because I have an office bulging with paperwork, Christmas cards to be sent, and presents to be sorted and mailed.

Finally, after I churned through a goodly portion of it and the See’s Bridge mix chocolate high had abated, I turned to the power source that always gives me a boost:  my Olympia Electronic Compact 2.

Like a faithful friend, or a body part made of putty-colored metal, it always restores my good humor.  After a few hours of clanking away, cranking out notes to affix to my holiday cards, my good spirits were restored and I could smile again.

Such is the power of the hand-heart connection.
