Another one bites the dust.

I was at the U.S. Post Office this morning trying to send a package.  “Erica”, the mail woman (that sounds funny, but I guess it’s what you say) was nice but things behind the counter weren’t running too well.  She didn’t have change for my $20 bill and told me, “Hold on a second…” while…

No sheet.

The world of matching linens baffles me.  I grew up with ratty towels, used to almost rags.  When I went away to college, I grabbed the least-shredded light orange and tan ones, and headed off to school.  It wasn’t until I got married that I discovered there are “thread counts”.  I also learned that the…

A typewriter lost…and a new friend found.

Seth is a major promoter and marketing genius who kindly took the time to meet me at a mutual friend’s behest.  We talked about my blog, how I’m looking for work as a fundraiser, and our general love of old-school paper & correspondence. He remembered that when he’d been in high school, his father bought…

Sue’s typewriter necklace…

Sue B., my friend since 7th grade, and I took typing lessons together in summer school.  We like to say “we invented e-mail” because one of us would type a letter to the other, while the recipient-to-be would eat snacks in the kitchen.  Both of us developed enormous speed that summer, and we split our…

Hillel’s handsome ambassador.

Marshall is the handsome director of the Brown-RISD Hillel in Providence, Rhode Island.  In a former life, he could have been a Jewish “Ken doll”, he’s that gorgeous.  He’s also smart and is building a cross-country network. I’ve introduced him to a few people and he’s excellent at staying in touch.   I admire that. Please…

Amazon pumps up the U.S. Post Office.

Coming soon — Amazon will deliver where no mailman has gone before.  If you live in New York City or Los Angeles, AND you’re a member of “Amazon Prime” (which costs $79 per year), Amazon just announced they’ll be teaming with the US Post Office to make Sunday deliveries.  Let’s hope this gives a much-needed…

When someone speaks out…

I let them know they’re brave and I appreciate their taking a stance.  At the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s “Second State of the Entertainment Industry Conference” this morning — there was a riveting panel about “Keeping Jobs in California”.  An executive from Paramount Pictures was exceptionally well-spoken.  I came home and sent out a note…

Where it all began…

http:/http://oztypewriter.blogspot.com/2012/12/son-of-22-olivetti-lettera-portable.html   The Heidelberg inspired the typewriter… and we should be forever grateful to that mighty beast.  I got this postcard at a printer’s fair a month ago… where it was sad to see so many machines sidelined, gathering dust in the Carson warehouse/museum.  The good news was that plenty of people were there, all…
