Postcard thrill from Ocean City.
“I got a postcard from Cate!” I yelled as I hurried in from the mailbox.
This was a big deal.
It was the first one I’d ever gotten from my 8-year-old pen-pal.
She was entering into a new realm… one which I remember, being on vacation and looking on those carrels for something, anything, that I could write on…
I sent her back a package with a few goodies in it which she should receive soon.
I didn’t say it to her, but I am secretly very excited. I can tell from how she’s writing — and what she’s writing on — that her
passion for correspondence is starting to flourish in a big way. And I feel partially responsible. This must be what elementary school teachers feel like when their students “get” the lessons. It’s a thrill.
