Puzzling it out…in bits and pieces.
When my young pen-pal Cate Ferrall (age 7) sent me a “TY” on a puzzle form… I wondered “What’s this tiny little box?” and as I shook it, out came the “note”. It took me three days to piece it together.
I was enchanted — and before it was completed, immediately went online to see where she got it.
It was a website named “Bits & Pieces” — and it’s a cut-up puzzle, on heavy stock paper, ready to be drawn or painted on. I put it in a frame in my cubby-holed size windowless office where I typed my notes.
I waited for the right candidate. The recipient needed to be a good sport — and someone who likes puzzles. After Annie G. sent me a ‘sisters’ necklace, I thought, “She’s got a sense of humor and
pulled out my Magic Markers to ‘create’ – although my product was nowhere near as cute as Cate’s had been. Under separate cover, to spare endless hours of aggravation, I sent Annie ‘crib sheet’ of what the puzzle said… a color Xerox copy.
She reported that she too was delighted, even though my level of craftsmanship was far below what Cate the first grader’s had been.
