A rock in turbulent seas.
There are some people who can stay calm no matter what s— hits the fan. I’m not one of those. I try, but I tap my fingers faster, clutch my stress ball harder, and feel my blood pressure pulse as the problem presents itself. I may not act it — I’ve trained myself to appear calmer on the outside than I’m necessarily feeling. But because it’s such a struggle for me, I’m in awe of those folks who seemingly glide through life and nothing takes them down.
Robert is one of those. He cuts through the water like a paddle-boarder, standing there with his row, waiting for the next wave to attack. He takes command of center stage on a television show, and if it’s a live 3-ring circus, so much the better. We’ve seen him on a daytime awards show where they gave the presenter the wrong envelope — and he shot out, all six foot four of jim, not rattled at all, and handed her the right manila folder.
He’s been part of the “America’s Funniest VIdeos” crew for 20+ years. I love watching him run the show, and after seeing him on another location shoot (this one in Disneyland), took a moment to remind him how much I appreciate what he does …
