Sam Simon, R.I.P.

I read in today’s paper that Sam Simon, one of the creators of The Simpsons. passed away.
I wrote his long-time agent Andy Patman a condolence note along with a clipping in which Andy was quoted.
It’s sad to lose a big talent… and from what I read, a person with a big heart, too.

Last night at dinner, Biff and Lynda Levy and I talked about how condolence cards are becoming
a rare entity. People are afraid of the “D” word, I surmised. I’m not, because after my sister Kitty
died, I remember how important getting condolence cards was to me… and how I kept them
on my bookshelf for many weeks, as a reminder that people were thinking of her and of me.
I’m a believer in condolence cards, even though it’s not something many people do anymore.
I still think it makes a difference.
