Smoked whitefish, violet and “Tim’s Vermeer”.

Violet hues.Sometimes a ‘thank you’ note can be combined with an idea for the next event.

Vivian has an eye for beauty and detail, which is why she’s  extraordinary when it comes to knitting, needlework, fabrics and button choices.  She’s also great at repairing torn sweaters, which I do with frequent regularity.  She’s saved several of my delicate dresses and fragile cardigans, and I went over to pick up the latest project I’d presented her with the morning of my Hanukkah party.

(Vivian’s cautionary note after she spent hours repairing the damage I’d done: “Don’t wear this sweater next time you work around the house.”)

We both love movies where we get saturated with color.  We saw “Renoir” together and got so inspired, Vivian ended up knitting me a lilac scarf — just the same violet hue as Renoir wore throughout the film.  (His had polka dots, though).

Now we learn that’s the “in” color for the season — so we were ahead of trend.

A new documentary “Tim’s Vermeer” seems like something Vivian would enjoy so I used the opportunity to not only thank her for lunch at Nate ‘n Al’s Deli in Beverly Hills — but start planning our next excursion.
