A special card.

I’ve been friends with Karen S. since we we met at UC Santa Cruz.  We moved to Los Angeles together.  Along the way, we met each other’s families and we were so close, I even got engaged at Karen’s wedding and we had our babies ten days apart.  Karen’s younger sister Joel is a woman with Down Syndrome, but it didn’t stop her from attending mainstream high school, voting in every election, and has working at a job for years.  (I joke she can readily predict the top ten TV shows — whatever she likes is a ratings winner.  She could have been a network programmer!) After a Hanukkah party I gave last week, a few “TY” notes dribbled in… and this one from Joel especially touched me. I think it’s the first I’ve ever gotten from her and it’s beautiful.  (I see Karen’s edited it with an inserted “the”, but that’s OK… Karen’s an editor so I wouldn’t expect anything less).  It’s perfect.
