Thanking my Professor, 40 years later.

I attended UC Santa Cruz a lifetime ago.

Studying Communications, where I got to play with video cameras and realize journalism — the newspaper style — was a dying art.

Professor Allen Plone showed me the way.  Taught me how to use the video camera, encouraged me to try even though I was afraid.

Got me ready to try the big time, and when I transferred to UCLA, it was because of Professor Plone’s faith in me that I began to have faith in myself.

In life, we’re lucky if we have a few friends who have our backs.

If we have a Professor or two along the way who do, that’s even better.

I got to thank Allen today, on a wonderful phone call, but it didn’t seem real until I sent him a letter too.
