When freedom is “a loaf of bread and a knife to cut it”.
At the Seder, Darlene asked us all what freedom meant. The most poignant moment
came when her mother Vivian, a Holocaust survivor said
quietly after everyone else had spoken, “During the war… freedom meant
a loaf of bread and a knife to cut it”. We sat silently, knocked out by how
basic freedom can be and how much we take our daily existence for granted.
