American Cool…and Johnny Depp.

I met Kim Sajet, Director of the National Portrait Gallery for the Smithsonian, the first month she’d taken office.

She was in Los Angeles and I showed her around The Jonathan Club, one of our downtown pieces of history.  I remember talking with her about an idea she was percolating — to have a show featuring famous photographers and their subjects.  I was thrilled today to receive a brochure inviting Vin and me to the opening reception… “American Cool”, at the National Portrait Gallery, featuring portraits of artists including Billie Holiday, Robert Mitchum, Elvis Presley, and Jay-Z.  Oh, and let’s not forget Johnny Depp.
