Praise for a life-changing author.

Years ago, my mentor Asa Baber (who wrote the “Men’s Column” for PLAYBOY)

urged me to read Art Spiegelman’s award-winning book MAUS.   “Until you undertand

your father’s past, no relationship with any man will work,” he warned.  It began my

journey into piecing together my father’s past… which remains a tapestry of unanswered questions.

When I learned Mr. Spiegelman would be an honoree at Commencement (ata Rhode Island School of

Design) — I sent a letter to the a school administrator and she delivered it to him for me.   I didn’t

get a response, but I feel better that I’ve thanked him for sharing his brave personal story.  I wish

Asa was alive to know I followed through…he would have been proud of me.
